Teen charged with attempting to kill woman, sheriff says | Crime
GRANITE FALLS - A Granite Falls teenager was arrested Sunday after investigators say he tried to kill a woman.
First responders with the Sawmills Fire Department were called to a home in the 4700 block of Mayfield Drive in Granite Falls just after 5 p.m. after a caller said his mother had fallen and cut her head.
Caldwell County Sheriff's deputies were called soon after and found the woman had not fallen, but had instead been the victim of an assault.
She was airlifted to a medical center with a serious head injury.
17-year-old Austin Nicholas Hunsucker, of the same address as where the assault took place, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.
The sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing and the relationship between the victim and the suspect, as well as any type of weapon used, will not being released at this time.
Hunsucker is being held in the Caldwell County Detention Center under a $250,000.00 secured bond. His first court appearance was December 19.
Detectives on the scene contacted the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations who responded to process the crime scene.
