BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Seven people were injured in a traffic crash in Burke County Wednesday morning.
The wreck happened around 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and Smarley Avenue.
The driver of a Dodge Caravan was traveling east on U.S. Highway 70.
The highway patrol said the driver, Tracy Scott, apparently reached down to grab something, ran off the road, and flipped the van onto its side.
According to E911 Communications Manager Lisa Propst, seven patients were transported to Grace Hospital in Morganton including Scott and six children ranging in age from five months to 7 years old. They were all treated and released from the hospital.
Scott is a foster parent and was taking the children from the South Mountain Children's Home to school.
The highway patrol says all the children were in child safety seats and that may have saved their lives.
Scott has been charged with failing to maintain her lane.
The wreck happened in area known to local residents as Bottom Drop and this is same area where a two-vehicle wreck left 10 people dead about 50 years ago.
